[ Abstract ]: Objective: To investigate the left levetiracetam ( LEV ) for newly diagnosed patients with epilepsy clinical curative effect and influence of cerebral electrical activity. Methods: LEV monotherapy in newly diagnosed epilepsy in 120 cases, to open their own controlled follow-up study. Observation of LEV after treatment for 2 months, 6 months and 12 months, the clinical curative effect of interictal epileptiform discharges, EEG background activity effect. Results: after treatment for 2 months, 6 months and in December after the total efficiency is respectively , and . EEG interictal epileptiform discharges ( IEA ) disappeared or reduced by more than 50% respectively , 50% and . Treatment of six months after brain electrical activity mapping and theta, delta band relative to power before treatment with relative power reduction, alpha power increases relatively, beta band relative power without obvious changes. Conclusion: left levetiracetam monotherapy in the treatment of newly diagnosed seizures has better curative effect, good safety, and can make the epileptiform discharges decreased or disappeared, and can improve the EEG background activities.[Key words ]: epilepsy; left levetiracetam; interictal epileptiform discharges; electroencephalogram
