枣树是人们非常喜爱的重要经济树种，在国际国内市场上占有较高的地位。枣的果实营养价值极高，含有丰富的糖类和蛋白质，同时富含钙、铁、磷等多种矿物质和维生素A、B、C等。枣果除鲜食外，又可制干和加工成酒枣、蜜枣、水晶枣等。枣也是我国传统的出口商品，在国际市场上很受欢迎。枣树的植株也有重要的利用价值，它的枝叶是蚕和山羊、兔的优质饲料；我国农村还常利用它的嫩梢代替茶叶；它的木材坚硬、纹理细致，是用作雕刻的优质材料，古代用它作为车轴。

枣树除以上的直接利用价值外，还具有以下特点：①适应性强。无论平原、丘陵、河滩沙地、海边盐碱地或其他果树不能栽植的瘠地，它都能生长。枣树的抗旱、耐湿、抗寒、抗热等也很强，在我国分布之广，适应性之强，是其他果树所不及的。②繁殖容易。在繁殖方法上可进行分株、插根、嫁接枝插，而其他果树繁殖方法单一，成苗较慢。③寿命长，结果早。一般嫁接苗2～3年就可有一定产量。在老枣树区常能见到二三百年的大树结果。④喜光，枝叶稀，发芽晚，落叶早。有利于在枣树行间种植矮秆作物，获得较高的经济效益。枣树开花期迟（4月中下旬发芽，5月中下旬开花），因此可以避免晚霜的威胁。⑤管理粗放。一般枣树栽植后不需特殊管理，就能正常开花结果，并能获得满意的经济产量。
