乡村地理学的研究方法有：①实地调查，了解实际的基本情况和变化。②典型对比，可根据经济水平或乡村景观等将研究区域分为若干类型，选择具有代表性的典型进行对比研究。③系统分析，把乡村作为自然、经济、社会的大系统进行分析。比如在产业结构研究中以某一产业为中心，联系其他产业进行分析；在城乡关系中，以集镇为中心，联系城市、村庄进行相关分析；在人地关系上，以人口为中心，联系资源、环境和经济进行分析。④动态研究，分析乡村的形成和演变，探讨发展变化的基本趋势。⑤区域模式，根据乡村土地利用结构、劳动力结构、产业结构、收入结构、投入和产出结构等经济发展指标，建立不同的农村发展模式并加以论证，为建立乡村级地域经济体系提供依据。

近年来，乡村发生了深刻的变化，给乡村地理学的研究提出了许多新课题。主要有：乡村劳动力转移问题；以集镇为中心的乡村居民点结构体系的改造和建设；乡村产业结构的合理性及乡镇企业的发展；以土地问题为中心的资源调查、评价及开发利用与保护；乡村经济发展模式；乡村经济、社会发展总体规划.关键词  乡村，资源，劳动力，经济，社会，结构，效益。

聚落地理学，研究聚落形成、发展和分布规律的学科，又称居民点地理，是人文地理学的一个分支学科。聚落地理学的研究内容主要包括不同地区聚落的起源和发展；聚落所在地的地理条件；聚落的分布，揭示聚落水平分布和垂直分布的特征并分析其产生的自然、历史、社会和经济原因；聚落的形态，这是聚落地理学中研究较多的方面，涉及的内容有聚落组成要素，聚落个体的平面形态，聚落的分布形态，聚落形态的演变，自然地理因素（主要是地形和气候）以及人文因素（包括历史、民族、人口、交通、产业）对聚落形态的影响。聚落(settlement)，是人类活动的中心，它既是人们居住、生活、休息和进行各种社会活动的场所，也是人们进行劳动生产的场所。不仅在聚落内部有各种企业商店进行工业生产和商品流通，而且聚落内部也进行着农副业生产以及文化娱乐活动。聚落是人们经济活动和社会活动中心。在地图上常被称为居民点。聚落不仅是房屋的集合体，还包括与居住地直接相关的其它生活设施和生产设施。聚落作为人类活动的场所和聚集中心，具有多种功能。首先是居住功能；其次是经济功能；第三，社会功能。聚落地理学(Settlement Geography)又称居民点地理学，是一门研究聚落形成发展、组合分布以及发展演化规律的学科。聚落地理学的研究对象就是聚落本身，按聚落规模和性质大小，又可以分为乡村聚落地理学(Rural Settlement Geography)和城市地理学(Urban Geography)两大分支学科。乡村聚落地理学又称农村聚落地理学，也有人称为村落地理学(Village Geography)，是研究乡村地域人类聚居地的形成、分布与发展变化规律的一门学科。它着重研究乡村聚落的形成、功能、组合分布、类型及其发展变化规律。城市地理学是研究在不同地理环境下，城市形成发展、组合分布和空间结构变化规律的科学。[1]
