6月19日，由军事科学院军事医学研究院与地方企业共同研发的新型冠状病毒mRNA候选疫苗(ARCoV)已正式通过国家药品监督管理局临床试验批准。这是中国国内首个获批开展临床试验的mRNA疫苗。

同日，国家药品监督管理局批准了中科院微生物研究所和安徽智飞龙科马共同研发的新冠重组蛋白疫苗进入临床试验，这是继腺病毒载体疫苗和灭活疫苗两种类型的疫苗进入临床试验之后，又一种新的技术路线研制的新冠疫苗进入临床试验阶段。

6月28日，高福等学者在国际顶级学术期刊《细胞》（Cell）在线发表了一项研究，题为“A universal design of betacoronavirus vaccines against COVID-19, MERS and SARS”，提供了一种针对COVID-19、MERS和SARS的β冠状病毒疫苗的通用设计。
