The title of my paper is An Analysis of Ahab’s Personality Tragedy in Moby Dick. I choose this title as my topic due to the following reasons. Firstly, I am fond of literature works , especially gothic literature works. Secondly, I am quite familiar with this work as this is one of the texts in our American literature course . Last but not least , Moby-Dick is widely recognized as the summit not only of Melville’s art but of American nineteenth-centry fiction.

The purpose of this essay is to study Captain Ahab,the role in Moby-Dick, whose leg was bitten by the white whale in his process of the whaling. After losing his leg, he determined to revenge Moby Dick and tried to kill it. In order to revenge, Ahab ultimately dooms the crew of the Pequod (save for Ishmael) to death by his obsession with Moby Dick. By taking the comprehensive analysis perspective of Moby-Dick, this thesis will point out that the main characteristics of Ahab.

This paper consists of three parts. Part one presents an introduction to the Social Background and the life of the Author Herman Melvillehe ,Part two presents The Main Characteristics of Ahab. there are three aspects have been divided to analyze his characters: his monomania , his selfishness, and his individualism. The title of my paper is The Masculine Spirit of The Old Man and the Sea

The whole thesis consists of 3 parts. The first part will give brief introductions on the background which contains the social and cultural aspects and the introduction to the author of the masterpiece. In The second part is going to have a brief

introduction of the old man and the sea and analyze the masculine spirits in the old man and the sea such as the faith optimistic and the wisdom of the hero. In the third part, it is the natural conclusion and the deep consideration.

I choose this as my topic due to the following reasons. Firstly, I am fond of literature works. Secondly, I am quite familiar with this novel as this is one of the texts in our intensive teaching course and I have taught this text for more than 3 times. Last but not the least, I’m deeply appreciated to the masculine spirit and hope I can get and practice it in my future. The topic of my thesis is 《Angela carter to mythology research - the female archetype in “new eve passion”, for example》. I choose this as my topic due to the following reasons.

Angela Carter (1940-1992) is an outstanding feminist writer whose influence on Britishwomens writing was “pivotal in this opening and transformation”. The year 2014 represents the 22” anniversary of Angela Carters death. In those twenty-two years, her works have been widely taught internationally and brought about much critical debate. In a survey conducted by Cristina Bacchilega and Danielle M. Roemer [2],Carter is one of the most commonly taught women writers on North American programs. She has endowed us with an amazingly large number of legacies in her comparatively limited life, setting foot in various fields such as novels,short stories,children stories, dramas, non-fictions and so on. The acute observations with great insights,as well as the devastating wit and poignant mockery in Carters works have made her stand out as an iconic figure in English literature. Many scholars and critics have devoted themselves to the research on Angela Carter from many perspectives,including gothic, magic realism, feminism,post-modernism and so on. As a prolific writer who is always ready to blur the boundaries between different genres, Carter has left us a wonderful world to delve into.

With the emergence of western womens movement as well as the development of feminist criticism in the 1960s,the feminist approach has become a potent weapon for those who are concerned with the emancipation and legal rights of women. Though womens social status has considerably improved due to the contribution made by countless predecessors,the fundamental problem still lingers on. Carter, with her versatile and avant-garde reputation, is best known as a feminist writer. Concerning the dilemmas and predicaments faced by women nowadays,it is very necessary for us to probe into her insightful and penetrating reflections on femininity as well as the relationship between two genders. The Passion of New Eve, as one of Carters most representative works, is of great value in the research of her feminist thoughts and propositions.

Next, is my paper outline. In the main part of this article, I put it into five parts.

Chapter one is an introduction to the thesis, covering the research background, theobjective and significance as well as the organization of the thesis.

Chapter two presents a broad picture of Angela Carters life and her works, as well as the background information about The Passion of New Eve. It also reviews previous studies on Angela Carter and her works at home and abroad, summarizing achievements in the past and pointing out new directions in the future.

Chapter three conducts a retrospective study on feminism and archetypal criticism. The author attempts to work out the origin and development of feminism, demonstrating the important role feminism plays in Carters life. Then is the history of archetypal criticism,as well as those classic female archetypes in mythology. Regarding those fossilized and monotonous images as impediments to womens freedom and liberation,Carter endeavors to shatter them in her demythologizing strategy and appeals for a rational attitude toward heterosexual relationship.

Chapter four is the main body of the thesis. Through an in-depth analysis on The Passion of New Eve,it demonstrates Carters demythologizing of “The Temptress,,,”Mother Goddess“and ”Eve“ respectively in the text. Leilah,the embodiment of Delilah,the famous temptress in the Bible,cannot escape the fate of being objectified by men and herself. By exposing”temptresses“ as mere victims rather than symbols of viciousness. Carter condemns the oppression and exploitation of women in a patriarchal society. ”Mother“ in Beulah serves as a severe satire on those mother goddesses in mythology. Carter smashes the legend by revealing the surgically-made essence of mother and the patriarchal values lurking behind her alleged matriarchal kingdom, warning against the peril and impracticality of extremist her most convincing example goes to Eve, the most important female character in the Bible, Her transformative journey from a chauvinist to a real woman in the story illustrates that gender, rather than a hereditary feature, is the result of social influence and unremitting imitations. Carter concludes the story with proposing ”androgyny“ as a solution to the current problems,implying that mutual respect and understanding is the only way to achieve the harmony between the two genders.

Chapter five comes to a general conclusion, summarizing the limitations of the theses as well as some suggestions for further study.

学的数字世界里，它的功能是计算，秩序严谨，职司分明，是 实数;而在人类 心灵的数字世界中，它的功能是表义，许多数字经过“神化”后成为“玄数”、 “虚数”、“ 天数"。它们有着极其丰富的外延和内涵。"(王秉钦，1998) 由于受东西方文化传统、宗教信仰、语言崇拜、地理环境等方面的影响，数 字的神化存在着东西方的差异 ，但也存在着共性，有着共同的规律。在"数的 般数字，在中国古代被 认为是一种神秘的数字，它起初是龙形(或蛇形)图腾化之文字，继而演化出"神 圣" 之意，于是中国古代历代帝王为了表示自己神圣的权力为天赐神赋，便竭 力把自己同“九”联系在一起。如天 分九层，极言其高，天证/诞日为正月初 九，天子祭天一年九次。更有趣的是连皇宫建筑都与"九"有关。例 如，北京 城有九门，天安门城楼面阔九问，门上饰有九路钉(即每扇门的门钉纵横各九排)。 Since Dewey developed the concept of “critical thinking”, many scholars abroadhave carried out a series of studies about improving students' critical thinking skills ineducation field. According to six critical thinking skills,this study was carried out by requiringstudents to hand in an argumentation. All participants in this study are non-Englishmajor college freshmen from a 211 key university. The revised version of Rubric forQualitative Critical Thinking Skills Instrument was used in this study. Withquantitative and qualitative analysis,writing experiment is conducted within a wholesemester to collect data concerning students' learning behavior. Reading-to-write isused in experimental class while traditional method is adopted in control class. Thewriting scores by the experimental and control class were statistically processed bysoftware SPSS . And also the interview was launched in some of students inexperimental class to assess students' critical thinking abilities reflected in theirwritings-The final analysis indicated that EGAP writing model exerted a significantlypositive influence in improving students' critical thinking skills, especially in arousingstudents' writing enthusiasm and critical thinking awareness. Compared with controlclass, students in experimental class made big progress in writing competence. Inaddition, this study put forward some reform proposals to the teaching of Englishwriting. The study is of great value to instruct students to employ critical thinkingskills in their writing.

A large body of research has been conducted on the effects of technology-enhancedEnglish vocabulary learning since the 1960s (Marty, 1981)。 However, no consensus hasbeen reached yet (Choo, Lin, & Pandian,2012; Mohsen & Balakumarohsen, 2011)。

Despite the fact that some narrative reviews have evaluated and explored thesecontradictory results, this study aims at quantifying the overall effectiveness oftechnology-enhanced English vocabulary learning with a different approach to review:meta-analysis and performing in-depth moderator analyses of learning method and testtype further.

Totally, twenty effect sizes from thirteen pieces of primary research are obtainedafter collecting related literature published or unpublished in recent ten years via fourchannels and selecting through three filters. Later, all the primary research is coded anddata are computed in random-effects model with software ComprehensiveMeta-Analysis.

Results show that: (1) Technology has a positively large effect on Englishvocabulary learning according to Cohen's standards as proposed in 1992 (g = 95% confidential interval of [, ])。 (2) Learning methods (intentional learning,incidental learning, and integrated learning) have impacts on the overall effectiveness.

Heterogeneity exists in the three learning methods (g = = 0,01 < )，Effectiveness of intentional learning, incidental learning and integrated learning is ^ =, g 二 , g = respectively. However,the investigation ofstudents' current writing situation shows that being deeply influenced by traditional writingteaching methods which emphasize grammar and vocabulary; the students have littleknowledge about genre approach theoretically or systematically and lack the awareness ofgenre. Because of this,it becomes necessary to put forward an English writing teachingapproach which is effective as well as applicable to the situation in China so as to enhancetheir writing competence.

This paper firstly gives a brief introduction to the developing trend of EGAP bydiscussing its necessity and applicability in China and the main views of two schools of genretheory, the tiieoretical foundation and genre-based approaches of three main schools of genrestudy and practice. And also,their characteristics are compared and the adaptability inChinese College EGAP class is analyzed, based on which it puts forward a modifiedGenre-based approach in EGAP writing class in order to enhance students' genre awarenessand improve their writing skills.

To achieve this, two non-English major classes of freshmen in East China University ofScience and Technology (ECUST) have been selected as the experimental class andcontrolled class, and the research lasts one semester. It can be reflected inthe design of textbooks and the use of audios, videos and images, etc. Thus, in thisthesis, the theoretical foundation is the theory of multimodal discourse analysis (MDA)derived from Systemic Functional Linguistics and Social Semiotics. The essence ofMDA is that other semiotic resources such as: images, audios, etc. are as important aslanguage in the meaning-making system. Visual Grammar, Acoustical Grammar andthe integrated frameworks of MDA are the main analysis approaches in this thesis.

Meanwhile, the results of the teaching investigation and the MDA for textbooksare the practical foundation for the multimodal teaching design, providing feasibleand effective suggestions in this thesis. According to the results, it can be concludedthat students have more or less realized multimodality in this course and argue thatmultimodality should be used in moderation; multimodal classroom activities, socialcontent, etc. should be brought into the class; teachers should remind students to payattention to images, fonts change and other multimodal factors in textbooks.

Therefore, when conducting the multimodal teaching design, attention should bepaid to: (1) Modalities influence each other with clear priorities in this course. Degree adverbs play a crucial role in daily language communication. However,owing to their wide varieties and similar meanings, it is hard for language learners toreally master their meanings and usages.

With the aid of AntConc and based on the corpora of FROWN (TheFreiburg-Brown Corpus of American English)，FLOB (The Freiburg-LOB Corpus ofBritish English) and CLEC (Chinese Learner English Corpus)， the study aims tocompare the actual use of common English degree adverbs in terms of semanticprosody between Chinese EFL learners and native English speakers. The researchprocedures consist of two steps. First, AntConc is launched to extractconcordance lines of the target node words in each corpus and the semantic featuresof the node words' collocates are analyzed; then, the semantic prosodies of these nodewords are summarized and comparisons are made between the two corpora.

The results indicate that there are differences as well as similarities betweennative English speakers and Chinese learners in their use of semantic prosody.

Chinese EFL learners tend to underuse the negative semantic prosodies of fairly,highly, and totally?,overuse the negative semantic prosodies of extremely; and misusethe semantic prosody of terribly. The results also show that some problems exist inChinese learners' use of semantic prosodies of degree adverbs, and the reasons mayinclude their first language transfer, intralingual transfer, and the lack of informationabout the semantic prosody in dictionaries and textbooks.

我是07社工班的学生巩鲜妮，我的毕业论文题目是《社区照顾理论下的城市社区养老服务发展对策研究》。我当初之所以选择这个课题，一是因为目前我国已进入了老龄化社会，关注养老服务是我们的责任，也是亟待解决的问题。二是我个人对养老服务的兴趣。我的学年论文就是研究老年社区照顾的，题为《从“我国老年人的恋家情结”视角看老年社区照顾的开展》，而毕业论文就是对学年论文的深入，我希望通过自己的浅薄研究能够为我国养老服务的发展提供建议和参考。

随着我国人口老龄化的加剧，养老问题已成为我国社会生活中存在的一个不容忽视的问题。由于家庭结构的变化，子女数量的减少，传统的家庭养老和社会养老已经不能适应我国目前快速老龄化的现状。在我国城市社区快速蓬勃发展，社区服务功能日益扩展和凸现的背景下，如何以社区为依托和载体，使之承担和发挥其养老服务功能，成为理论和实践上需要研究的问题。

近年来，对城市社区养老服务问题的研究较之初期的研究已逐渐走向深入，研究视角也在不断拓展。从研究城市社区养老服务的文献来看，多数研究集中在社区的境况、老年人的生理特征、心理特征、养老工作存在的问题等方面，优势视角、增能理论也开始得到了初步应有。以社区照顾理论的视角来研究城市社区养老服务的研究也有不少，但目前运用的深入和全面分析尚不多见。虽然这些相关研究对城市社区养老服务的发展都起着极大的促进作用，但也存在着不足和缺陷。例如：多数研究从社会调查的角度出发，比如对我国老年人身体状况、生活状况的调查等；问题的分析多数也仅仅局限在浅层次的空洞层面，分析还不够深刻细致，让人知其然不知其所以然；对于问题解决，太过注重养老的物质层面，而忽略内心和精神层面；在方案的提出方面，考虑不够全面，大多停留在宏观政策的层面，很多措施抽象而不具体，也难以落实，同时也缺乏可行性。

因此，我在本文的写作过程中，结合当前城市社区养老服务的现状，全面分析其所存在的问题，在社区照顾理论的应用和深入下，重点从文化传统、思想观念、经济实力等方面着手，针对我国的城市社区养老服务发展初步提出建设性对策。希望能够为我国的城市社区养老服务的发展工作提供建议和参考。

全文共分四个部分，分别为：社区照顾理论的分析、我国城市社区养老服务的现状、我国城市社区养老服务所存在的问题及原因分析、社区照顾理论下我国城市社区养老服务的发展对策。

第一部分主要阐述了社区照顾理论的来源、相关概念、内涵及特点。旨在增加对该理论的理解。

第二部分主要在大量文献的查阅和实地考察的基础上，概括了我国城市社区养老服务的总体现状。主要有：城市社区养老服务领域不断拓宽；城市社区养老服务方式呈现多样；城市社区养老服务环境日趋优化。

第三部分主要提出了目前我国城市社区养老服务所存在的问题：

（6）资金缺乏且来源渠道单一。并对其进行了原因分析。

本文采用的研究方法主要有：文献研究法、比较分析与实证分析法，首先本文是在查阅大量相关资料和前人的研究情况下来进行写作的。

其次，本人对重庆市部分社区进行了走访调查，调查对象注意了地域代表性。最后，对大量的资料进行了归纳总结，分析原因，并提出几点可行的建议。

本文存在着一些不足之处，例如由于人力和时间有限，不能对各社区进行大范围的调查，改进与验证。

第二部分主要阐述了技术经济分析方法包括盈亏平衡分析、敏感性分析、风险分析这三项不确定性分析及综合分析法、层次分析法和模糊综合评价法三个重要的系统综合法的基本原理及优缺点介绍。

第三部分主要阐述了上诉集中重要技术经济分析方法在浙能乐清电厂中的实际应用。

最后一点，想说说论文存在的一些不足。

第一，搜集材料的问题；虽然在校期间从事家教辅导，但是对中学教学的经验仍有待提高，因此，在写作的过程中，仅从几个问题上阐述了我肤浅的理解。

第二，由于实践研究不够，总结出的策略可操作性不强。论文对这些问题没有深入展开探讨，与导师期望达到的水平仍有一定的差距。

主要表现为：调研统计资料不够齐全，样本数量不足，合理性、全面性不够，技术经济分析方法选取代表性不足等。

上午好!我是惠州学院中文系xx本2班的学生xxx。我的毕业论文的题目是《再论苏轼寓惠散文》,我的指导老师是曹国安讲师。我当初之所以选择研究苏轼的寓惠散文，主要是因为苏轼是我比较喜欢的一个作家，他是我国文化发展史上一位多才多艺的“全能”式的通才，在散文创作方面，他更是是继欧阳修之后，宋代诗文的革新运动的卓越领导者和文坛领袖，唐宋散文八大家之一。他的散文代表了北宋古诗文运动的最高成就。在苏轼四十多年的文艺创作生涯中，他写了大量的散文，含括了众多的体裁品类。苏轼在寓惠期间，不仅创作了大量的诗词，同时也写了不少散文作品，包括书信在内共有326篇。这些寓惠散文作品便成了我研究此课题的最直接的文本基础。此外，在大学学习期间，我选修了苏轼寓惠研究方面的相关课程,对苏轼在贬谪惠州的相关事宜有一定的了解,也积累了一定的写作素材,有利于该课题的研究和写作工作的开展。

我的论文《再论苏轼寓惠散文》主要从苏轼的散文及其寓惠期间的时代背景入手，着手从苏轼的思想品格和人生哲学的角度，结合苏轼寓惠散文的具体作品进行分析，去探讨苏轼寓惠散文的内容题材和艺术特色，并尝试挖掘出苏轼寓惠散文的文化价值来。

具体说来，我的论文分为以下四个部分：

第一部分主要是总体上介绍苏轼散文创作及其在寓惠期间的贬谪生活经历和散文创作。

第二部分主要从四个方面去阐述苏轼寓惠散文的内容题材。苏轼寓惠散文取材广泛,内容丰富,蕴意深邃,感情真挚,充满理趣。或写景状物，寄寓深远;或谈经论道，释说世理;或叙古述今，慨叹人生;或缅怀亲友，诉说真爱。

第三部分主要从五个方面去阐述苏轼寓惠散文的艺术特色。苏轼寓惠散文，艺术形式灵活多变，笔锋清新自然，感情真挚恳切，寓意深远理趣，语言平淡简朴，具有独特的艺术特色。具体表现为：“文理自然，姿态横生，闲适旷达，浑然天成;情如泉涌，随物赋形;辞达;命题立意，新颖深刻，高远幽邃;沉稳渐熟，平淡简朴。”五方面的内容。

第四部分则简明地阐述了苏轼寓惠散文具有三方面的文化价值，包括：苏轼寓惠散文是后人研究苏轼寓惠经历的重要历史文献;苏轼寓惠散文是他晚年文艺思想、审美情趣发生转变的佐证;苏轼寓惠散文是苏轼所有散文的重要组成部分。

虽然目前学术界在苏轼散文研究领域取得了较大的进展，近20年来，出版和发表了数量可观的散文研究的著作和论文，但在苏轼寓惠散文研究方面的论文还很少，除了零散的一些论文外，在这个方面几乎是个未开垦的处女地。因此进行苏轼寓惠散文研究具有现实的学术价值。虽然我的论文是《再论苏轼寓惠散文》，但与前人所写的《试论苏轼寓惠散文》相比，具有创新之处，就是我在阐述了苏轼寓惠散文的内容题材和艺术特色的基础上，更进一步指出了苏轼寓惠散文所具有的文化价值来。

Having a flair for Economics and accounting I have decided that I want a degree in Accounting and Finance or Management. The many brilliant representatives of the management community around the world have strengthened that resolve.

When I worked in my school as a tutor of English as a Second Language for students from a community school in Muscat, I realized the importance of a strong leader who could organize, command respect, and be able to work well with others. These ideas were further enforced by my month long internship at Novartis Pharmaceutical (Accounts and Finance Department and Human Resources Department).

I attended the Harvard Model Congress in Paris and won the Award of Distinction. One skill in particular that contributed to this award was my confident public speaking.

The last 4 months have been crucial in my learning of real world business and economics. For my IB Extended Essay, titled “To What Extent Does Subway in Oman Operate as an Oligopoly”, I set out to prove the oligpolistic structure of the fast food market in Oman. In this effort, I have come across many real life complexities in pricing behaviour, profit making and other aspects of the Theory of the Firm. While attempting to explain these alternate theories of firms I have developed a keen interest in analyzing and understanding how the world of business works.

After an undergraduate degree in accounting and finance or management I plan to go onto post graduate studies and work on an MBA. A strong performance in a BA will allow me to move onto an MBA and only then shall I be satisfied.

For the last four years I have been part of our schools volleyball team ICE. We have retained our ISAC (Inter Schools Activities Conference, Middle East) title for four years. Playing in the power hitters (spiker) position requires immense physical fitness and to accomplish that I regularly go to the gym for fitness training. I am also part of my school track and field team. Being the fastest sprinter in the school since 11th grade the 100m, 200m and 400m races are my specialty even though I still pursue long distance running. In my spare time I explore and master the computer as I am conversant with a Visual Basic Programming course. It is imperative for me to have the latest hardware and software and I make it a point to install everything myself. I also learn Urdu as it is my native tongue and a link to my culture, to maintain that is crucial.

Living in a diverse international community of over 52 nationalities has allowed to me recognize and appreciate different cultures. With the experience I have and the strong motivation to craft a bright future I feel I can justify my decision to pursue a career in Accounting and Finance or Management.

Pocketed with this passion and thinking, I tasted to use mathematical modeling into practice and solve the practical problems by attending the National College Mathematical Modeling Contest with the other two schoolmates on behalf of our college. It required us to evaluate the water quality of Changjiang River according to the data, through which we had to analyze the water pollution in every region and predict the trend of it in the future. Finally we had to bring out the plan against it. It was really a challenge for us towards flood of data and estimations as long as 17 pages. We tried almost a whole day only to filter those data and take the evaluations into comprehensive account. Pulling down various models we had built before, we were so defeated that we wanted to give up many times. However, we finally found the satisfactory model thanks to our encouragement to each other which armed us with full strength to go managed to evaluate the water quality by Composite index model, which could not only represent the evaluation factors, but also reflect the main impacts of the contaminations to the water pollution. We predicted the future water pollution through multiple linear regressions fitting and brought out the plan against it by building linear optimization model. Finally, we got the second prize in Beijing for our thesis. Three days’ and nights’ modeling experience had cooled our passion and gave us even more calm thinking instead. The creation of the mathematical modeling, along with the successful solution to the problems through it lied on the solid mathematics foundation, strong modeling ability, accumulation of the knowledge on different fields, unique creative ideas and creativity.

The experience from this contest further aroused my interest in mathematics. I began to pay more attention to its application as well as learning the theories. In addition, I tried to catch every opportunity to take part in the practical mathematical modeling. My efforts finally rewarded when I was in the first term as a junior. So far, I am excited to see that this activity is still in the wind with more and more participants and it aroused a learning upsurge in our college.

Recommended by my teacher, I have participated in the Teaching Reform Program of Mrs. Xing yongli----the results analysis of “Improving the mathematics teaching quality on class”. Mrs. Xing, along with some other mathematics teachers experienced the class mutual activities in 2004 to 2005 with the character data files in form of paper investigations. For this style of data files, I finally used the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) as a creative challenge instead of the fuzzy mathematical quantitative analysis models, which firstly knocked my mind. By quantitating data and using the AHP, I succeeded in analyzing how the overall quality of the teachers and their teaching skills work in improving the mathematics teaching quality on class, from which we got the conclusion that the teaching skills and the way to put forward questions on class play the most important role in the class mutual activities. Besides, Mrs. Xing collaborated with me on the thesis named “The Application of Analytic Hierarchy Processinto the Evaluation of Class Mutual Activities”.
