研究层面
第一，选题不当
写好英文论文要把握两个「R」：relevance(相关性)和rigorousness(科学严谨性)。选题不当属于相关性把握得不好。很多学生论文的选题缺乏创新性，最具代表性的是跟风写作。什么课题是热点，就追做什么课题，而不是知己知彼，科学选题。跟风选题的弊端很多：首先，容易和“牛人”做的课题重叠，这叫市场定位不清。如果把文章看作是公司的一个产品，那么牛人的课题组就是大公司，团队实力强，起点高，市场营销能力也强。换句话说，就算你写出了与牛人同等质量的好文章，和牛人的组比起来论文发表也是问题。其次，缺乏科学严谨性，很多学生选题不考虑问题的可验证性，想的更多是有没有创新性。例如，一个科研小组根本不可能拿到金融高频交易数据，却想做基于高频数据的金融挖掘课题，最终只能无疾而终。最后，绝大多数科研是需要产出的，因而必须考虑研究的应用价值在何处。学生经常遇到的情况是，文章写完了，甚至发表了，却很快被尘封了，因为文章选题不具有应用价值。
那么，应该如何选题?在我看来，选题就像是公司创业选择方向，要练好眼力、定力和产生市场壁垒的能力。练眼力，既要培养广度，也要培养深度。首先要学会泛读相关领域的文章，能触类旁通。找到研究空白后，要能精读与研究缺口相关的文章，做到如数家珍。无论泛读还是精读，都需要有好的定力，这恰恰是很多学生所缺乏的。大多数学生喜欢急于求成。其次，选了一个好的题目，具备了先发优势，还要考虑可能面临的竞争。在竞争面前，提炼市场壁垒能力。
第二，对相关问题的研究现状缺乏了解
写文章首先要对问题的研究现状有基本的了解，前面说的泛读就可以帮助我们了解研究现状。从事科研工作的人员越来越多，可发表论文的会议和期刊杂志也越来越多，这就容易导致我们会漏读一些相关的文章。找相关性文章的原则是：首先，要搞清楚所在行业的顶级、次级的会议和期刊。研究问题的现状一定不能遗漏这些会议和期刊上的相关文章，这些文章的作者可能就是你要发表的文章的审稿人。我们发表文章的时候也应该发表在好的会议和期刊上，这样文章受关注的程度也高。其次，要了解世界各地在该研究问题上比较有影响力的研究小组。要经常浏览他们的网站，实时追踪他们的研究动态，做到知己知彼。他们同样也是潜在的审稿人。
当了解相关的参考文献后，文章引用要注意几个问题：第一，有限度地自引用;第二，引用其他研究组的相关文章要做到尽可能平衡;第三，引用其他文章时，首先要肯定这些文章的闪光点，其次指出和自己所做工作的不同，尽可能不过于负面批评他人的文章。因为我们写文章的目的是让人欣赏我们的工作，所以指出不同就足够了。
第三， 没有贡献或者贡献不明确
通常文章被拒的主要原因是没有贡献、贡献太小或者贡献不明确。造成这个结果有两种可能。第一种是文章确实没有大贡献。许多文章的贡献只是现有技术的组合，或者对现有方法的微小改进。在这种情况下，学生往往还喜欢过度夸大文章的贡献，结果适得其反。第二种是文章其实有很好的贡献，但是作者没能展示出来。在科研竞争日益激烈的环境下，我们要站在审稿人的角度去思考问题，审稿人通常每年面对非常巨大的审稿任务，很多情况下是审稿人的学生完成具体的审稿工作。这就意味着，如果作者没有清晰地展示自己的技术和方法的独特性，没有提供充分、科学的验证结果，那么审稿人很难发现文章的贡献，最终导致文章被否定。其实写论文要求我们要讲好一个故事，这个故事要生动，同时要逻辑清晰、背景清楚、细节明了，还要经得起推敲。
另外，在学术界有滥用数学公式的现象。有些作者在明知自己的文章没有什么贡献的情况下，有目的地加入许多不必要的数学公式。目的是「如果我不能说服他们，那只能迷惑他们(If I cannot convince people, just confuse them)」。虽然有很多文章最终靠滥用数学公式被录用，但这样的文章是不具有生命力的。
第四， 问题的挑战性没有充分展示
写研究论文的一个关键点是要在文章中不停地强调问题的挑战性，在摘要、介绍、方法、实验和结论中都要展示。很多学生写的文章只是简单地描述问题、方法和实验结论，没有强调问题的挑战性。整篇文章就像白开水，很难给读者留下深刻的印象。通常描述问题的复杂性的最好方式是通过图示或者举例说明，比如通过一个例子介绍算法的工作，或者运用图示显示整个算法的流程。因为只有作者最了解问题的挑战性，所以作者应该动脑筋以最简单、最直接的方式把问题的挑战性展示出来，并且在全文中不断地用不同方式进行强调。
第五，研究方法缺乏验证或验证不足
科研文章离不开科学的验证。总结起来，有4种验证模式：第一种，最严格的验证就是理论证明，比如严格的计算复杂度推导，或者上界/下界的理论确定。但是在很多情况下，特别是在计算机科学领域，有些研究方法没办法用纯粹的理论证明，于是可以采用第二种混合办法―有一些步骤可以被理论验证，不能被理论验证的部分可以用实验验证，比如数据包在网络节点间的往返时间。在部分研究方法也无法用理论验证的情况下，可以用第三种纯粹实验的办法。该方法的严格程度不如前两种，但至少可以证明问题的解决办法在某些情况下的可行性。对于很多应用型计算机问题，纯粹实验验证方法被广泛使用，但也有其局限性。科学严谨度最低的是第四种验证方式――案例验证。在某些情况下，大规模的实验难以进行，只好提供几个成功的案例。文章中提到的研究方法在提供的案例中是适用的，但结果不一定具有普适性。这四种验证方式的严谨性逐步降低。在做计算机科研的时候，有时候不得不在科学严谨性和可行性之间取得平衡。
对上述验证方式的选取一般奉行两条原则。第一，无论如何都要验证文章中的研究方法，要与现有方法进行比较。如果问题是全新的，现有方法中没有合适的比较对象，就要学会左右手互搏，设计多种验证方式，实现自我比较，选出最优方法。第二，尽可能选取科学严谨性高的验证方式。
写作层面
第六，组织混乱，缺乏逻辑性
一篇好文章通常可以让大同行读懂文章在研究什么问题以及为什么要进行研究。其实，好文章通常只描述一个故事(一个具有挑战性的问题)，问题的引出、挑战描述、解决方法、验证方法和结论都是一气呵成。逻辑性最难把握的是摘要和介绍。文章给人的第一印象最重要，而第一印象来自摘要，一个好的摘要通常写得引入入胜、紧凑、逻辑性强。摘要的最高境界是无法改动一字。有了好的摘要，还需要在介绍中讲出一个好故事，包括问题的背景、研究动机、具体问题、挑战性、解决方案、验证情况和最终结论。所以，能把文章写得深入浅出并且引人入胜的人，一定可以成为逻辑性很强的市场营销高手。
第七， 有无知的表现
有的学生写的文章经常犯些低级错误。顶级会议或期刊是不可能容忍低级错误出现的。一篇有新意的文章在时间上也是等不起的，所以要避免低级错误出现。哪些是容易犯的'低级错误呢?(1) 以非常严格的方式定义一个小同行都知道的概念;(2) 对相关问题的研究现状的了解有重大不足或错误，甚至故意忽视相关参考文献;(3) 文章引用错误或者不恰当;(4)应用不正确或者过时的验证法或验证工具;(5) 使用错误的实验数据;(6) 把常识当作新发现;(7) 文章写得不规范，或者不符合投稿要求;(8) 从数学教科书中大量拷贝所谓的严格的数学证明;(9) 过度夸大文章的贡献;(10) 试图隐藏文章中研究方法的缺陷与不足;(11) 虚报实验结果;(12) 在文章中对同一个实验进行重复性地不同展示。
第八，英文写作基础差
中国学生写英文文章共通的问题是英文写作的基础较差，其非常重要的一个原因是缺乏正规化的训练。科研文章的美感在于简洁、清晰、逻辑化。因为文章的目的是尽可能让更多人在短时间内看懂，而不是炫耀华丽的辞藻，所以英文写作要注意以下几个原则：(1)尽可能用短句，避免使用复杂句;(2)当介绍方法、算法的时候，一定要用例子、图例说明;(3)文章表达要生动，对图、表、例子、数学证明的使用也要平衡;(4)文章的排版要有美感，不要把所有的文字，或者所有的图、表堆积在一起，要均衡搭配。图、表、例子要尽可能靠近描述它们的文字;(5)一定不要有错别字和语法错误，如果不清楚就上网查询;(6)要学会正确地使用缩写单词，在文章中第一次使用时一定要定义，而且在文章中的使用要一致，尽可能使用大家都约定俗成的缩写，不要随意发明创造;(7)要培养鉴赏美学的能力，首先要会欣赏美的文章，其次才谈得上创造美的文章。
第九， 写作不够专业化
好的文章一定要展示作者的专业化。一篇专业文章的选题，首先要让人耳目一新，至少给人的第一印象要好。其次要能清晰准确地指出文章的问题和方法的独特性，并让人了解问题和方法的难点、挑战性在何处。第三，一篇好文章就像一个活生生的人，要有血有肉，各种该有的元素都要具备。第四，文章格式要专业化，要用最高的职业标准要求自己，比如一定用LaTeX写文章，画图也一定用最专业化的画图软件，要多看打印机打印出来的效果，注意细微之处。只有这样，文章才能达到至少看上去很美。第五，平时多留意、多收集真的很美的文章，甚至可以不是自己研究方向的文章，把这些文章装订成册，经常看，才能培养出对美的文章的感觉，才能学会欣赏。只有这样，才真正有机会写出很美的科研论文。
论文总结要添加上论文的观点后,也可以相应的加上部分推测内容,总结一定要有自己的观点虽说不怎么新颖但是不会出错的。
有第二次机会的，只要自己好好准备，在第二次答辩的时候就会过了。
据学术堂了解,答辩者在毕业论文答辩之前应该从以下几个方面去准备:首先,要写好毕业论文的简介,主要内容应包括论文的题目,指导教师姓名,选择该题目的动机,论文的主要论点、论据和写作体会以及本议题的理论意义和实践意义.其次,要熟悉自己所写论文的全文,尤其是要熟悉主体部分和结论部分的内容,明确论文的基本观点和主论的基本依据;弄懂弄通论文中所使用的主要概念的确切涵义,所运用的基本原理的主要内容;同时还要仔细审查、反复推敲文章中有无自相矛盾、谬误、片面或模糊不清的地方,有无与党的政策方针相冲突之处等等.如发现有上述问题,就要作好充分准备--补充、修正、解说等.只要认真设防,堵死一切漏洞,这样在答辩过程中,就可以做列心中有数、临阵不慌、沉着应战.第三,要了解和掌握与自己所写论文相关联的知识和材料.如自己所研究的这个论题学术界的研究已经达到了什么程度目前,存在着哪些争议有几种代表性观点各有哪些代表性著作和文章自己倾向哪种观点及理由;重要引文的出处和版本;论证材料的来源渠道等等.这些方面的知识和材料都要在答辩前做到有比较好的了解和掌握.第四,论文还有哪些应该涉及或解决,但因力所不及而未能接触的问题,还有哪些在论文中未涉及到或涉及到很少,而研究过程中确已接触到了并有一定的见解,只是由于觉得与论文表述的中心关联不大而没有写入等等.第五,对于优秀论文的作者来说,还要搞清楚哪些观点是继承或借鉴了他人的研究成果,哪些是自己的创新观点,这些新观点、新见解是怎么形成的等等.对上述内容,作者在答辩前都要很好地准备,经过思考、整理,写成提纲,记在脑中,这样在答辩时就可以做到心中有数,从容作答.
关于内容：1、一般概括性内容：课题标题、答辩人、课题执行时间、课题指导教师、课题的归属、致谢等。2、课题研究内容：研究目的、方案设计（流程图）、运行过程、研究结果、创新性、应用价值、有关课题延续的新看法等。3、PPT要图文并茂，突出重点，让答辩老师明白哪些是自己独立完成的，页数不要太多，30页左右足够，不要出现太多文字，老师对文字和公式都不怎么感兴趣；4、凡是贴在PPT上的图和公式，要能够自圆其说，没有把握的坚决不要往上面贴。5、每页下面记得标页码，这样比较方便评委老师提问的时候review关于模板：1、可以去像素网选择一套合适的论文答辩PPT模板，不要用太华丽的企业商务模板，学术ppt最好低调简洁一些；2、推荐底色白底（黑字、红字和蓝字）、蓝底（白字或黄字）、黑底（白字和黄字），这三种配色方式可保证幻灯质量。我个人觉得学术ppt还是白底好；3、动手能力强的大牛可以自己做附和课题主题的模板，其实很简单，就是把喜欢的图在“幻灯片母版”模式下插入就行了。

1.民航应用英语专业的建设背景
近年来，中国民航业的持续快速发展为民航业内各企事业单位的发展带来了新的机遇和挑战，使得行业内高素质复合型的外语应用型人才的需求也日益增大。以南航为例，自该公司于2007年11月15日加入天合联盟以来，大力倡导“英语工程”，强化英语培训，英语成为该公司的工作语言，该公司还明确提出对包括飞行安全、乘务服务、值机、售票、营销、机务、驻外经理等在内的8个业务单元岗位任职的英语要求。而海航集团国际化业务的快速发展，也使该公司需要英语人才的有关岗位扩展到行政、人力资源、财务、航空客货运销售、境外场站代表、国际空中乘务员、酒店管理培训生等。行业的发展催生了对熟练使用英语、熟悉经济和民航业务知识并且具有创新精神的复合型外语人才的巨大需求。因此，面对民航业对高素质外语应用人才的需求和要求，考虑到目前高职英语专业建设面临的现实问题，如何根据学生的水平以及就业市场的需求，合理设置专业结构，并制定相应的人才培养方案，是民航应用英语专业学科建设中的重要问题。
2.民航应用英语专业人才培养模式探究
2.1民航院校英语专业人才培养模式的设置
目前中国民航局直属的行业院校中，广州民航职业技术学院和上海民航职业技术学院两所高职学院都未开设独立的英语专业，英语只做为公共课程开设。开设英语专业的中国民航大学、中国民航飞行学院也只是将其设置为英语专业内的小方向，通过辅修课的形式让学生自行选择是否学习该方向的有关专业课程。其中，中国民航大学的英语专业下设为民航、商贸和语言文学三个方向；而中国民航飞行学院的英语专业分为民航商务运输、涉外文秘、客舱管理和英语教育四个子方向。此外，跟民航行业紧密相关的南京航空航天大学也设置了英语（民航业务）专业。笔者通过实地或者网络调研，调查了三所大学英语专业的课程设置情况，发现各所大学因为办学历史、办学理念以及师资力量的不同，英语专业课程设置各有侧重。虽然在语言课程和民航专业课程的设置上各不相同，但三所大学的英语专业整体课程设置都采取了“英语+民航”的形式，即除了必修的基础课程之外，还开设了民航方向的辅修课程。这种除了培养学生的语言基本功，还要求学生掌握专业技能的复合型人才培养模式缩小了学生与行业的距离，也缩短了学生的就业适应期。而根据调查可见，三大院校英语专业的毕业生就业形势良好，除了在中国民航各航空公司、管理局和机场承担翻译、外事、管理、教育培训、研究等工作之外，也可在涉外经济贸易部门和企业从事对外经贸工作，这也证明复合型外语人才的培养是符合行业发展和社会发展需求的。
2.2广东省内高职院校的英语专业人才培养模式设置
作为地处广东的一所行业内高职院校，我们在进行专业建设时，不仅要考虑行业内的人才需求，也应当考虑所处地区的人才需求。近年来，针对珠三角区域经济发展的需要，许多省内的高职高专院校纷纷开设了应用英语专业。笔者调研发现，它们开设的应用英语专业主要为商务英语、涉外文秘、旅游英语、经贸英语等。以深圳职业技术学院为例，该院的应用外国语学院目前设有含商务英语在内的四个外语专业。其中，商务英语专业的课程体系主要由商务英语语言类课程、商务基础类课程和商务专业类课程组成，课程设置不仅考虑到对学生语言运用能力的培养，也涉及到国际商务专业知识和技能的培养，其目的就是要培养能够用英语直接参与国际商务活动和管理的通用型、应用型人才。广东科学技术职业学院的外国语学院下设商务英语、旅游英语、应用英语等专业。该院的英语人才培养模式也是采取“英语+专业”的方式，在夯实学生语言基础的同时，对他们进行全方位的专业技能的培养。同时，各专业的人才培养目标明确，不同专业方向之间界限清晰，主干课程几乎不重合，完全依照本专业的人才培养计划设置，这样也避免出现专业方向模糊，学生所学知识技能不能满足实际工作所需的情况。业虽然都针对民航开设了相关专业课程，但主要以培养研究型、管理型的高等英语专业人才为主，虽然有部分毕业生进入航空公司、机场等民航单位的一线工作，但大部分毕业生在民航业从事的是翻译、外事、管理、教学以及研究等较高层次的工作。与高职教育相比，本科教育更重视知识的培养而非技能的锻炼，因此毕业生需要一段时间的磨合才能适应岗位的技能要求。同时因为工作内容和工作性质，基层岗位的工作相对辛苦，并且学历和薪酬不对等，许多具有本科学历以上的员工往往会难以安于现状而选择跳槽。笔者在针对用人单位所做的调研过程中，发现用人单位对于员工的实际操作能力和工作稳定性非常重视。在进行一线岗位的`招聘时，他们更倾向于选择实际操作能力强，能快速进入工作角色，并能安心立足于岗位工作的技能型人才。而那些培养应用英语人才的地方性高职高专院校，虽然具有一定的办学历史和办学规模，但是他们的人才培养主要集中于商务、文秘、旅游、外贸等行业或者岗位群，并非针对民航业内的岗位群，在学生培养过程中不能提供相应的专业支撑，因此毕业生很难直接进入民航行业内单位就业。而通过对数家民航业内单位的调研，笔者发现，民航业内的许多岗位都要求员工具有相应的专业知识才能顺利完成工作任务。以航空公司的客票销售为例，工作人员除了具有良好的语言沟通能力之外，还应能熟练操作电子订票系统，为旅客预定座位等，这些工作任务都要求工作人员熟悉民航业务，并掌握一定的专业知识。在对南方航空公司地面服务部的调研中，笔者发现，该部门目前的社会招聘主要招收英语和计算机专业的毕业生。随着计算机操作系统在民航各岗位的普及，民航业对计算机人才的需求日益扩大。而国际旅客的数量日益增多使该部门对员工的英语水平要求也越来越高，英语专业毕业生显示出语言上的优势。但因为民航业务知识的空缺，这些毕业生在入职初必须要接受一系列业务知识培训，才能正式上岗。工作后，公司仍需安排一些老员工来指导他们实际操作。这个过程往往耗费公司许多成本和精力，却无法避免。因此，根据民航企事业单位的人才需求，基于行业标准，为行业培养大批既精通行业知识又能熟练运用英语，并且具备一定商务知识的复合型英语应用人才是很有前景的。作为立足民航的民航应用英语专业，其目标应是培养具有扎实的英语听说基础和熟练运用英语交流的能力，掌握对外文化交流的相关知识和技能，熟悉民航相关业务知识，能以英语直接参与民航国际商务活动和管理的应用型人才。目前高职院校的应用英语主要是“英语+专业”的培养模式，即基础语言技能课程组合相关专业知识课程，而这个专业知识通常针对某一专业方向，比如商务英语、旅游英语、文秘英语等。作为民航院校，我院在人才培养上应当凸显行业特色，民航业务知识应纳入专业知识学习中来。因此，我们应采取“英语+民航+商务”的培养模式，注重培养学生英语语言技能的同时，还要引入民航业务知识和相关商务知识的教学，将语言能力和专业知识有机结合，全方位提高学生的综合能力和素质，让我们的学生成为既面向民航，也面向地方的复合型英语人才。
3.民航应用英语专业课程体系的构建
3.1民航应用英语专业人才职业能力分析与支撑课程设置
职业教育是以就业为导向，因此专业的开发和建设应该根据地区、行业经济和社会的发展需求进行，而专业课程的设置更要建立在对就业市场和就业需求进行深入研究的基础之上。在构建民航应用英语专业课程体系时首先也需要对本专业培养的人才的职业能力进行分析。据调研，应用英语人才可就业的领域主要是国内外各大航空公司，各航空服务企业，民用机场，旅游服务公司等，主要从事的工作可分为涉外商务和涉外文秘两大岗位群，两大岗位群又分等；涉外文秘可分为行政秘书和行政助理和外事翻译等。各个岗位任务不同，所需的技能不同，设置的课程也不同。
3.2民航应用英语专业课程体系的建立
培养具有良好综合素质的“精外语、通民航、懂商务”的民航应用英语人才，既要重视语言教学，也要重视技能培养。人才培养的最终目标是实现该专业培养的学生既有良好的英语语言基础，又有良好的语言交际能力，同时还要兼具民航专业素养和商务沟通能力。专业课程的设置应本着理论够用，重技能、重操作的原则，以提升人才综合职业能力为专业倾向，在此指导下着力配置和开发应用性复合性强的课程，加大基础语言技能和专业操作的比重。因此，专业课程的组成应体现“英语语言知识技能+民航业务知识技能+商务知识技能”这一结构。具体包括：（1）公共基础课程，即开设培养政治素质的思想政治课程，以及品德修养、法律职业道德和人文知识课程；（2）专业基础课程，主要开设培养学生英语语言能力的语言基础课程，如英语口语，英语听力，综合英语，英语写作与翻译等；（3）专业方向课程，分为专业主干课程和专业选修课程。专业主干课程的目标是培养学生职业素质所需的民航和商务知识，如航空运输地理、航空商务英语、危险品基础知识、旅客心理学、商务礼仪、国际商务英语、外贸函电、商务英语写作、商务英语翻译、商务英语谈判等。专业选修课程强调专业适应的方向和知识的跨度，如报关英语、文秘英语、外事英语口语、商务行政管理等；（4）实践性教学课程，开设培养学生语言运用能力、创新思维能力和实际工作能力的实践课程，内容包括企业调研、技能竞赛、考级考证、社会实践、第二课堂等。
4.总结
这四部分课程应交叉渗透，构成一个循序渐进的有机整体。前三个部分的课程为理论教学体系，主要培养学生的基础理论和基本素质，原则是“必需、够用”。实践课程强调学生的实际技能，要以具体岗位技能为导向，集中训练学生的实操能力。各类课程的开设必须要分期考虑，先基础后专业，由简入难，理论在前，实用在后。

Firstly, I am very interested in the study of ambiguity. Ambiguity is a common phenomenon in all natural languages. As is known to all, in our daily conversations, ambiguity is often employed to achieve the effect of humor, thus creating a relaxing atmosphere and letting people feel at ease. Some jokes caused by ambiguity is very interesting.
Secondly, I have read several articles about ambiguity written by linguistics and scholars. I found my knowledge of ambiguity is very limited, superficial and nonsystematic. What I knew is just the tip of the iceberg. So I plan to learn more about ambiguity by this research.
Thirdly, I found many scholars have carried out numerous studies of ambiguity, but a majority of these studies are focused on single language separately. Articles about comparison between English ambiguity and Chinese ambiguity are not sufficient. So it is necessary to make further study.

Next, I will present the outline of my thesis. It consists of 7 parts.
The first part gives a brief introduction to the ambiguity and structure of the thesis.
The second part is literature review, briefly introducing the development of study of ambiguity and some scholars’s main views.
The third to fifth parts focus on three types of ambiguity in English and Chinese: phonological ambiguity, lexical ambiguity, syntactic ambiguity. In every broad type, I respectively list some detailed branches and cite some vivid English and Chinese examples to explain these ambiguity phenomena. But I put more focus on the third part and point out two differences of ambiguity between English ambiguity and Chinese ambiguity.
The part six will point out positive results by using ambiguity deliberately in daily conversations, advertisements and literary works.
The last part is the conclusion.
I hope by this contrastive research, we will have a better understanding of ambiguity in English and Chinese and apply it to our life and study.

The title of my paper is On the Significance of Drama Method in the Improvement of English Learning in Chinese Rural Junior High School. I choose this as my topic due to the following reasons. First of all, I really want to be a teacher, so during the four years, I have read many books about how to become a good teacher. Secondly, when I was a freshman in the summer of 2008, I was chosen as a teaching assistant of the summer camp which was organized by the New Oriental English School in Shijiazhuang. In the summer camp, I rewrote a script of an English drama to be one of the programs of the open ceremony. It was very popular among those students. They thought it was very interesting. In 2010, I was practiced as an English teacher at Chenguantun Middle School in Qinhuangdao, I found that the students have little interest towards English learning, so I hoped I could help them. Carter condemns the oppression and exploitation of women in a patriarchal society. ”Mother“ in Beulah serves as a severe satire on those mother goddesses in mythology. Carter smashes the legend by revealing the surgically-made essence of mother and the patriarchal values lurking behind her alleged matriarchal kingdom, warning against the peril and impracticality of extremist matriarchy.And her most convincing example goes to Eve, the most important female character in the Bible, Her transformative journey from a chauvinist to a real woman in the story illustrates that gender, rather than a hereditary feature, is the result of social influence and unremitting imitations. Carter concludes the story with proposing ”androgyny“ as a solution to the current problems,implying that mutual respect and understanding is the only way to achieve the harmony between the two genders.Chapter five comes to a general conclusion, summarizing the limitations of the theses as well as some suggestions for further study.OK! Now I will present my efforts to you and gratefully welcome any suggestion.
Firstly, I am very interested in the study of ambiguity. Ambiguity is a common phenomenon in all natural languages. As is known to all, in our daily conversations, ambiguity is often employed to achieve the effect of humor, thus creating a relaxing atmosphere and letting people feel at ease. Some jokes caused by ambiguity is very interesting.
Secondly, I have read several articles about ambiguity written by linguistics and scholars. I found my knowledge of ambiguity is very limited, superficial and nonsystematic. What I knew is just the tip of the iceberg. So I plan to learn more about ambiguity by this research.
Thirdly, I found many scholars have carried out numerous studies of ambiguity, but a majority of these studies are focused on single language separately. Articles about comparison between English ambiguity and Chinese ambiguity are not sufficient. So it is necessary to make further study.
For the above facts, I select this title.
Next, I will present the outline of my thesis. It consists of 7 parts.
The first part gives a brief introduction to the ambiguity and structure of the thesis.
The second part is literature review, briefly introducing the development of study of ambiguity and some scholars’s main views.
The third to fifth parts focus on three types of ambiguity in English and Chinese: phonological ambiguity, lexical ambiguity, syntactic ambiguity. In every broad type, I respectively list some detailed branches and cite some vivid English and Chinese examples to explain these ambiguity phenomena. But I put more focus on the third part and point out two differences of ambiguity between English ambiguity and Chinese ambiguity.
The part six will point out positive results by using ambiguity deliberately in daily conversations, advertisements and literary works.
The last part is the conclusion.
I hope by this contrastive research, we will have a better understanding of ambiguity in English and Chinese and apply it to our life and study.
When reading the final draft, I still find my argument is not so comprehensive and improvements are needed. So welcome your precious suggestion.
