Some people insist that only today and tomorrow matter. But how much poorer we would be if we really lived by that rule! So much of what we do today is frivolous and futile and soon forgotten. So much of what we hope to do tomorrow never happens.
The past is the bank in which we store our most valuable possession: the memories that give meaning and depth to our lives. Those who truly treasure the past will not bemoan the passing of the good old days, because days enshrined in memory are never lost.
Death itself is powerless to still a remembered voice or erase a remembered smile. And for one boy who is now a man, there is a pond which neither time nor tide can change, where he can still spend a quiet hour in the sun.
When the Moon Follows Me月儿随我同行
Each of my sons made the discovery early. We would be riding in the car at night, and a little voice would call out from the back seat, “Hey, the moon is following us!” I would explain that the moon was not actually gliding along with our car. There would be another period of critical observation and the final verdict, delivered more quietly this time: “But it really is moving. I can see it.”
I thought of that one evening as I was driving. The moon, one day short of fullness, rode with me, first gliding smoothly, then bouncing over the bumpy stretches, now on my right, then straight ahead, the silver light washing over dry grasses in open fields, streaking along through black branches, finally disappearing as the road wound its way through the hills.
When I crested the hill in the village, there it was again —— grown suddenly immense, ripe, flooding the town with a sprawling light so magical I began to understand why it is said to inspire “looniness.” I could hardly wait to get back home to show the boys.
Robert was in the bathtub, so I grabbed John. “ Close your eyes and come see what followed me home,” I said, hoping to increase the dramatic impact. I led him out into the night. “Okay. Open! Isn’t it beautiful?”
John blinked a few times and looked at me as if I might, indeed, be loony. “Mom, it’s just the moon. Is this the surprise?” I suppose he was hoping for a puppy.
I should have realized that, being only ten, he was probably too young to know how much we sometimes need the magic and romance of moonlight——a light that is nothing like the harsh glare of the sun that it reflects. Moonlight softens our faults; all shabbiness dissolves into shadow. It erases the myriad details that crowd and rush us in the sunlight, leaving only sharp outlines and highlights and broad brushstrokes——the fundamental shape of things.
Often in the soothing, restorative glow we stare transfixed, bouncing our ambitions and hopes and plans off this great reflector. We dream our dreams; we examine the structure of our lives; we make considered decisions. In a hectic, confusing world, it helps to step out into a quiet, clear swath of moonlight, to seek out the fundamentals and eschew the incidentals.
The night after I showed John the moon, he burst breathlessly through the door, calling, “Mom, come out for a minute!” This time, he led me, coatless and shivering. The driveway gravel crunched underneath our sneakers. From somewhere in the woods beyond the pond, the plaintive calls of geese honked and died away.
Past the row of pine trees that line the road, the sky opened up with the full moon on it, suspended so precariously close that it might come hurtling toward us—— incandescent, even larger and more breathtaking than the night before, climbing its motionless climb over the molten silver of our pond. Even a ten-year-old could see this wasn’t just the moon. This was The Moon.
When I turned around, John was grinning, expectant, studying my face intently to see if he had pleased me. He had. I knew that now the moon was following him too.

They have been married for more than 60 years. 六年级英语阅读 文章阅读 世界最小西瓜萌翻网友 一口一个嘎嘣脆 the rare pepquino melon measures just an over inch (3cm) from tip-to-tip but has the identical external pattern and distinctive shape of traditional watermelons. the pepquino melon, less than a centimetre in diameter, most closely resembles the all sweet variety of watermelon. it was discovered by dutch food producers in south america who brought it to the netherlands and cultivated it in greenhouses. while it resembles its larger cousins, it has a fresh crisp taste similar to a cucumber. with its distinctive appearance and slightly sour taste producer koppert cress believes it is set to become a new food fad in top london restaurants. prices start at £10 per 250g box, which contains around 50 melons. anneke cuppen, marketing manager at koppert cress said: "demand for the melons has so far come from the restaurant and hotel trade. we're hoping to sell 50-100 boxes a week. koppert cress的市场部经理安内可·库本说:“目前,对这种西瓜的需求来自餐馆和酒店。 "we're very excited about the product. it is highly versatile and can be used in a variety of ways - from salads to dessert." He’s just had to sit through his offspring’s fourth birthday party, with the youngster tearing open his presents and jumping all over daddy’s head in his excitement. So I can understand the expression of weariness on Kanzi’s face when I ask him what he wants for lunch. Then someone mentions the word ‘omelette’ — a Kanzi favourite, not just to eat but even to cook — and he’s off. He clambers on to a ledge in the viewing room of his concrete, steel and glass home and positions himself in front of a large, touch-sensitive computer screen showing a grid of some 400 symbols, or ‘lexigrams’, each representing a particular object or idea. A huge forefinger skims dextrously over the icons, pressing the ones he wants. The computer voices his selections with an American accent. This remarkable creature is a superstar. For years he has been changing the way we humans think about our relatives in the animal world, and challenging our assumed superiority to them. The bonobo is a more gentle and intelligent cousin of the chimpanzee. Its only natural homeland is now the Democratic Republic of Congo. Bonobos are our closest animal relative (sharing about 99 per cent of our DNA) and physically resemble our distant ancestors. Kanzi, now 33, has been fully immersed in the human world, and the English language, since birth. Scientists who have studied Kanzi all his life say he possesses a vocabulary big enough to follow and contribute to simple conversations. He can cook, make knives out of stone and play the arcade game Pac-Man (he can get past the first round — a feat beyond many humans). He and his similarly talented late sister, Panbanisha, once even jammed with British rock star Peter Gabriel, playing along on a keyboard as the former Genesis man played a synthesizer. Kanzi loves chatting on the video-calling service Skype. Two days later, I hear from him. Kanzi wants to see my home and particularly the contents of the fridge. In Swahili, Kanzi means ‘buried treasure’ — a quality this creature has in buckets.

Reading is a happy thing. For those who love reading, once they read it, they can't stop, they can't give up reading, they want to read to the ends of the world. Some people say: "the deepest and most peaceful happiness Calm down, open the book, the deposition of ink a little bit over the space, those dusty happiness a little bit open. Reading is really fun.
Goethe once said, "to read a good book is to talk to a noble man." Yes, reading good books is like making good teachers and friends, which benefits me a lot; Reading good books is like bathing in the warm spring breeze, Reading good books is like finding the source of happiness, which makes me understand the true meaning of happiness.

Life is picturesque, there are thick ink splashing, there are light pen light description; Life is like a song, there are light chanting and shallow singing, there are also Huang zhongdalu. You don't see the life of Li Taibai and Du Gongbu. They have created the greatness of life; Pei Duofei, Shelley's life, light pen light description, finally write the true meaning of life.
You can't see Tao Yuanming's "picking chrysanthemums under the East fence, leisurely seeing Nanshan" and Tan Sitong's "I smile from the horizontal knife to the sky, leaving my liver and gall in Kunlun".

Spirit is a monument, a cornerstone, a beacon on the way forward, and a yardstick for a brilliant life. With modesty, rich and talented, Confucius slowly chanted that "if three people walk, there must be a teacher." he was not ashamed to ask questions, and eventually became a generation of Confucian masters.
With tolerance, ambition and high spirited, Duke Huan of Qi abandoned his personal feud, appointed people on the basis of merit, achieved great achievements for thousands of years, and finally never threw away the Han envoys' festival in his hand. He cared for his motherland and eventually became a patriotic model for thousands of years.
Spirit, through the tunnel of history, across the long river of history, will forever support the towering and spectacular building of life.

Night, like ink drops on the canvas of the sky, permeates and faints. With a few strokes of the brush, there are stars. With a few strokes, the soft moonlight will shoot into your heart.
The firefly's light is as warm as the stars. The cricket took out his violin and played a beautiful waltz with the breeze.
The stream is flowing slowly, like the conveyor belt of time, passing by a little bit. Flowers even at night will also send out fragrance, the fish in the pool spit bubbles, bubbles are curtain after curtain of dreams. The sky began to rain, one by one, bright to the extreme, beautiful and sad, as if that is the sky tears.
Gently pull the curtain, is afraid to disturb that quiet; Lie down gently for fear of waking the sleeping stars; Gently cover the quilt, is afraid to break the sweet country autumn dream.

Human life is a chain. There will always be children younger than you and old people older than you. Each of us has his own position. It is a financial report that no one can take away.
Don't worry about when you are young or old. As long as we live a day, the wealth of youth glitters. There is only one dark night that can cover its light, that is, you think you are old.

I wish to be simple, honest, frank, natural, clean in mind and clean in body, unaffected —ready to say “I don’t know” if in fact I don’t, to meet all men in terms of absolute equality and to feel unafraid of any obstacle. I wish others to live their lives, too, to their highest, fullest and best. To that end I pray that I may never interfere, dictate, give unwanted advice, or assist when my services are not needed. If I can help, I’ll do it by giving a person the chance to help himself; and if I can uplift or inspire, let it be by example, inference and suggestion, rather than by order or assertion. That is to say, I desire to be radiant — to radiate life. Not everybody has patience. For some of us it is a process, meaning that it takes time to develop. But for all of us patience is a virtue1, meaning that it accompanies excellence and goodness. Being patient also means waiting and being willing to wait, which will bring forth patience and faith. When you can wait for anything, no matter how long it takes, then you have developed patience. The more patience you have, the more you believe; and the more you believe, the more faith you have. When one is going through something, no matter what, patience is always the key. I became a searcher, wanting to find out who I was and what made me unique. My view of myself was changing. I wanted a solid base to start from. I started to resist3 pressure to act in ways that I didn’t like any more, and I was delighted by who I really was. I came to feel much more sure that no one can ever take my place. Each of us holds a unique place in the world. You are special,no matter what others say or what you may think. So forget about being replaced. You can’t be. Just as you need air to breathe, you need opportunity to succeed. It takes more than just breathing in the fresh air of opportunity, however. You must make use of that opportunity. That's not up to the opportunity. That's up to you. It doesn't matter what "floor" the opportunity is on. What matters is what you do with it. The first snow came. How beautiful it was, falling so silently, all day long, all night long, on the mountains, on the meadows, on the roofs of the living, on the graves1) of the dead! All white save the river, that marked2) its course by a winding black line across the landscape3), and the leafless trees, that against the leaden4) sky now revealed more fully the wonderful beauty and intricacy5) of their branches! What silence, too, came with the snow, and what seclusion6)! Every sound was muffled7); every noise changed to something soft and musical. No more trampling8) hoofs9), no more rattling10) wheels! Only the chiming11) of sleigh-bells12), beating as swift and merrily as the hearts of children. In the entire world there's nobody like me. Since the beginning of time, there has never been another person like me. Nobody has my smile. Nobody has my eyes, my nose, my hair, my hands, or my voice. I'm special. The man then explained to his sons that they were all right, because they had each seen but one season in the tree's life. He told them that they cannot judge a tree, or a person, by only one season, and that the essence of who they are — and the pleasure, joy, and love that come from that life — can only be measured at the end, when all the seasons are up. If you give up when it's winter, you will miss the promise of your spring, the beauty of your summer, fulfillment of your fall. Don't let the pain of one season destroy the joy of all the rest. Ignore the“yes, buts”for the time being. All I want you to do right now is open your mind to the possibility that the world is made up of a countless array of experiences from the very worst to the very best. As someone once said,“A mind is like a parachute20)—it works best when open.”And here is my promise: If you open your mind, you will enjoy a more abundant and fulfilling21)life. We’re always on the go10)trying to accomplish so much, aren’s we? Getting groceries, cleaning the house, mowing the lawn — there’s always something. It’s so easy to get caught up in everyday life that we forget how simple it can be to bring cheer to ourselves and others. Giving a smile away takes so little effort and time, let’s make sure that we’ve not the one that others have to pretend is wearing an invisible smile. The motivation to succeed comes from the burning desire to achieve a purpose. Napoleon Hill wrote, “Whatever the mind of man can conceive and believe, the mind can achieve.” A burning desire is the starting point of all accomplishment. Just like a small fire cannot give much heat, a weak desire cannot produce great results. I have been through the depths of poverty and sickness. When people ask me what has kept me going through the troubles that come to all of us, I always reply: "I stood yesterday. I can stand today. And I will not permit myself to think about what might happen tomorrow." my time. I have drunk the cup of life down to its very dregs7). They have only sipped the bubbles on top of it. I know things they will never know. I see things to which they are blind. It is only the women whose eyes have been washed clear with tears who get the broad vision that makes them little sisters to all the world. 1. The strength of love is big enough to cause the person to forget all, but actually as small which cannot hold just a sand of envy. 8. No matter when you start, the more importantly is that do not stop after started. No matter when you end, the more importantly is that do not regret after ended. 6. Five-year-old Albert Einstein stared at his hand as if it held magic. Cupped in his palm was a small, round instrument with a glass cover and a jiggling needle. Albert's father called it a compass. Albert called it a mystery. No matter how he moved the compass, the needle always pointed to the north. Quietly Hermann Einstein watched his son. Albert was a chubby little boy with pale, round cheeks and thick, black hair that was usually messy. His bright brown eyes were wide with discovery. Something was in the room with him, Albert realized--something he couldn't see or feel, but that acted on the compass just the same. Spellbound, Albert listened to his father explain magnetism, the strange force that made the compass needle point north. But nothing his father said made the invisible power seem less mysterious or wonderful. To many children the compass would have been just another toy. To Albert the compass was a miracle he would never forget. But then Albert had always been different from other children. Born March 14,1879,in Ulm, Germany, Albert hadn't been looked like other babies. As she cradled her new son in her arms, Pauline Einstein thought the back of his head looked strange. Other babies didn't have such large, pointed skulls. Was something wrong with Albert? Although the doctor told Pauline everything was fine, several weeks passed before the shape of Albert's head began to look right to her. When Albert was one, his family moved to Munich, where his sister, Maja, was born a year later. Looking down at the tiny sleeping bundle, Albert was puzzled. Where were the baby's wheels? The disappointed two year old wanted to know. Albert had expected a baby sister to be something like a toy, and most of his toys had wheels. Albert's parents were amused by his confusion. But any response at all would have delighted them. At an age when many children have lots to say, Albert seemed strangely backward. Hermann and Pauline wondered why he was so late in talking. Was their son developing normally? As Albert grew older, he continued to have trouble putting his thoughts into words Even when he was nine years old, he spoke slowly, if he decided to say anything at all. Pauline and Hermann didn't know what to think. But Albert was a good listener and a good thinker. Sometimes when he went hiking with his parents and Maja, he thought about his father's compass and what it had revealed to him. The clear, open meadows were filled with more than the wind or the scent of flowers. They were also filled with magnetism. The very thought of it quickened Albert's pulse. The Old Man and the Sea老人与海 老人与海 The sun rose thinly from the sea and the old man could see the other boats, low on the water and well in toward the shore, spread out across the current. Then the sun was brighter and the glare came on the water and then, as it rose clear, the flat sea sent it back at his eyes so that it hurt sharply and he rowed without looking into it. He looked down into the water and watched the lines that went straight down into the dark of the water. He kept them straighter than anyone did, so that at each level in the darkness of the stream there would be a bait waiting exactly where he wished it to be for any fish that swam there. Others let them drift with the current and sometimes they were at sixty fathoms when the fishermen thought they were at a hundred. But, he thought, I keep them with precision. Only I have no luck any more. But who knows? Maybe today. Every day is a new day. It is better to be lucky. But I would rather be exact. Then when luck comes you are ready. The sun was two hours higher now and it did not hurt his eyes so much to look into the east. There were only three boats in sight now and they showed very low and far inshore. All my life the early sun has hurt my eyes, he thought. Yet they are still good. In the evening I can look straight into it without getting the blackness. It has more force in the evening too. But in the morning it is painful. Just then he saw a man-of-war bird with his long black wings circling in the sky ahead of him. He made a quick drop, slanting down on his back-swept wings, and then circled again. "He's got something," the old man said aloud. "He's not just looking." He rowed slowly and steadily toward where the bird was circling. He did not hurry and he kept his lines straight up and down. But he crowded the current a little so that he was still fishing correctly though faster than he would have fished if he was not trying to use the bird. The bird went higher in the air and circled again, his wings motionless. Then he dove suddenly and the old man saw flying fish spurt out of the water and sail desperately over the surface. "Dolphin," the old man said aloud. "Big dolphin." He shipped his oars and brought a small line from under the bow. It had a wire leader and a medium-sized hook and he baited it with one of the sardines. He let it go over the side and then made it fast to a ring bolt in the stern. Then he baited another line and left it coiled in the shade of the bow. He went back to rowing and to watching the long-winged black bird who was working, now, low over the water. As he watched the bird dipped again slanting his wings for the dive and then swinging them wildly and ineffectually as he followed the flying fish. The old man could see the slight bulge in the water that the big dolphin raised as they followed the escaping fish. The dolphin were cutting through the water below the flight of the fish and would be in the water, driving at speed, when the fish dropped. It is a big school of dolphin, he thought. They are widespread and the flying fish have little chance. The bird has no chance. The flying fish are too big for him and they go too fast. He watched the flying fish burst out again and again and the ineffectual movements of the bird. That school has gotten away from me, he thought. They are moving out too fast and too far. But perhaps I will pick up a stray and perhaps my big fish is around them. My big fish must be somewhere. Risk is endemic in human affairs. To say to someone "I love you" or to say in church "I believe"can never be risk-free undertakings. They are to make investments in things that are not fullyunder one's control. The other person may not love you back. The God in whom you stakeyour trust may turn out not to exist. The French philosopher Pascal famously attempted ametaphysical hedge with regards to the existence of God. He argued that if believers are rightabout God's existence, then they have gained everything. But if they are wrong about it, theyhave lost nothing. It's an attempt to eliminate risk from believing. But, like the risk avoidancestrategies of investment banks, where you invest your heart and your soul can never be riskfree. All commitment, whether it be financial, emotional or religious, is subject to thepossibility of failure. That's life. And indeed it may well be that the attempt to eliminate riskfrom life can, in extreme forms, become an attempt to eliminate life itself.
My heart's in the highlands, my heart is not here; My heart's in the Highlands, a-chasing the deer; Chasing the wild deer, and following the roe My heart's in the highlands wherever i go. You want to be very careful about lying, otherwise you are nearlysure to get caught, once caught, you can never again be, in the eyes of the pure and the good, what you were a young person has injured himself permenently throuth a singleclumsy and ill-finished lie, the result of carelessness born of incomplete training. Someauthorities hold that the young ought not to lie at all. That, of course, is putting it ratherstronger than necessary. Still, while I can't go quite so far as that, I do maintain, and I believe Iam right, that the young ought to be temperate in the use of this great art until practice andexperience shall give them that confidence, elegance, precision which alone make theaccomplishment graceful and profitable. Patience, diligence, painstaking attention to detail- these are the requirments. These, in time ,will make the student perfect. Upon these, andupon these only, mayhe rely as the sure foundation for future eminence. Think what tedious years of study, thought, practice, and experience ,went to the equipmentof the peerless old master who was able to impose upon the whole world with the lofty andsounding maxim that "Truth is mighty and will prevail."- The most majestic compoundfeature of fact which any of woman born has yet achieved. For the history of our race and every individual's experience, are sown thick with evidence thata truth is not hard to kill and that a lie told well is immortal. There is in Bostain a monument ofthe man who discover the anesthesia. Many people are aware, in these later days, that he didn'tdiscover it at all, but stole the discovery from another man. Is the truth mighty, and will itprevail? No, My hearers, the monument is made of hard materials, but the lie it tells will outlasta millon years. An awkward, feeble, leaky lie is a thing which you ought to make it yourunceasing study to avoid. Why, you might as well tell the truth at once and be done with it. If I speak in the tongues of mortals and of angels, but do not have love, I am a noisy gong ora clanging cymbal. And if I have prophetic powers, and understand all mysteries and allknowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but do not have love, I amnothing. If I give away all my possessions, and if I hand over my body so that I may boast, butdo not have love, I gain nothing. Love is patient; love is kind; love is not envious or boastful or arrogant or rude. It does notinsist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice in wrongdoing, butrejoices in the truth. It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never ends. But as for prophecies, they will come to an end; as for tongues, they willcease; as for knowledge, it will come to an end. For we know only in part, and we prophesyonly in part; but when the complete comes, the partial will come to an end. When I was a child,I thought like a child; when I became and adult, I put an end to childish ways. For now we see inmirror, dimly, but then we will see face to face. Now I know only in part; then I will know fully, even as I have been fully known. And now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; and thegreatest of these is love.
No young man starting life could have better capital than plenty of friends. They will strengthen his credit support him in every great effort, and make him what, unaided, he could never be. Friends of the right sort will help him more to be happy and successful than much money or great learning. Friendship is no one-sided affair. There can be no friendship without reciprocity. One cannot receive all and give nothing,or give all and receive nothing, and expect to experience the joy and fullness of true panionship. Those who would make friends must cultivate the qualities which are admired and which attract. If you are mean stingy and selfish, nobody will admire you. You must cultivate generosity and large-heartedness; you must be magnanimous and tolerant; 你必须培养慷慨和宽巨集大量的气度;你必须有雅量并对人容忍; you must have positive qualities, for a negative, shrinking, apologizing, roundabout man is despised. You must believe in yourself. If you do not, others will not believe in you. You must look upward and be hopeful, cheery, and optimistic. No one will be attracted to a gloomy pessimist. To help others, you don't have to be an efficient expert in the art; the main thing is theintention. You may be crude and clumsy, wasteful and ineffective, but if you sincerely try to help, yourattempt produces nothing but good. The one you are trying to help knows your intention and is strengthened and encouraged bythe magic of your sharing. In nearly every case, your simple desire to help, converted into action, produces the goodsought. But perhaps the greatest good is the good that you yourself get out of the attempt. Service to others delivers more joy to you than the joy you deliver to them. In doing good, you free yourself from the terrible burden of self; you escape from yourself intoa clean world of joy and light. The good you simply try to do, regardless of the oute, is always a success inside yourself. Unselfish giving is your most efficient formula for happiness, for you have embraced Eternityinstead of Self; 无私的施舍乃是获得快乐最有效的法则,因为你拥抱的是“永恒”而非“自我”; you have felt Life, and you are now the world bigger than you were before you began theproject. The love of beauty is an essential part of all healthy human nature. It is a moral quality. The absences of it is not an assured ground of condemnation, but the presence of it is aninvariable sign of goodness of heart. In proportion to the degree in which it is felt will probably be the degree in which noblenessand beauty of character will be attained. Natural beauty is an all一pervading presence. The universe is its temple. It unfolds into the numberless flowers of waves in the branches of trees and the greenblades of grass. It haunts the depths of the earth and the sea. It gleams from the hues of the shell and the precious stone. And not only these minute objects but the oceans, the mountains, the clouds, the stars, therising and the setting sun一all overflow with beauty. This beauty is so precious, and so congenial to our tenderest and noblest feelings, 这样的美是如此珍贵,也如此适合我们最温柔与高尚的情感, that it is painful to think of the multitude of people living in the midst of it and yet remainingalmost blind to it. All persons should seek to bee acquainted with the beauty in nature. There is not a worm we tread upon, nor a leaf that dances merrily as it falls before the autumnwinds, but calls for our study and admiration. The power to appreciate beauty not merely increases our sources of happiness一it enlargesour moral nature, too. Beauty calms our restlessness and dispels our cares. Go into the fields or the woods, spend a summer day by the sea or the mountains, and all yourlittle perplexities and anxieties will vanish. Listen to sweet music, and your foolish fears and petty jealousies will pass away. The beauty of the world helps us to seek and find the beauty of goodness.
例如,在教I’m feeling happy时. Do you like……? Yes,I do.(No,I don't.) Do you like the little panda? Yes,I do. Do you like the big bear? No, I don't.……
例如在练习Is this your sweater ? Whose sweater is it? Is this your sweater? It’s a red pen ,It’s a blue bag等句子时,教师可以出示一些图画,请学生根据图画的内容编一段问答对话。
