When love beckons to you, follow him, though his ways are hard and steep. And when his wings enfold you yield to him, though the sword hidden among his pinions may wound you. And when he speaks to you believe in him, though his voice may shatter your dreams as the north wind lays waste the garden.

For even as love crowns you so shall he crucify you. Even as he is for your growth so is he for your pruning. Even as he ascends to your height and caresses your tenderest branches that quiver in the sun, so shall he descend to your roots and shake them in their clinging to the earth.

Like sheaves of corn he gathers you unto himself.

He threshes you to make you naked.

He sifts you to free you from your husks.

He grinds you to whiteness.

He kneads you until you are pliant;

And then he assigns you to his sacred fire, that you may become sacred bread for God’s sacred feast.

All these things shall love do unto you that you may know the secrets of your heart, and in that knowledge become a fragment of Life’s heart.

But if in your fear you would seek only love’s peace and love’s pleasure, then it is better for you that you cover your nakedness and pass out of love’s threshing-floor, into the seasonless world where you shall laugh, but not all of your laughter, and weep, but not all of your tears.

Love gives naught but itself and takes naught but from itself. Love possesses not nor would it be possessed, for love is sufficient unto love.

The photo album worn and old is sitting on the pile. She flips the cover open just to reminisce awhile. On the first page there she is, a baby in her lap, her son when he was one year old; she smiles as she thinks back. That was taken in the park where she took him to play. Funny how it sometimes seems like only yesterday. But other times it seems those days are distant memories. And all we have reminding us are pictures such as these.

She sees a picture of him with his second birthday cake, and smiles as she remembers of the face that he would make. When trying to blow out the candles he would have a fit. He tried so hard to blow them out but they would all stay lit. So Mom came to the rescue with a waving of her hand. The same time that he blew on it she waved a little fan. She smiles as she thinks back at all the things when he first tried, when she would lend a helping hand and then just step aside.

She sees a picture of him standing holding his first bike, and smiles when thinking how he said, “It’s harder than a trike.’’ But she would run behind him holding on while he would ride, until he got his balance and then she would step aside.

She turns the page and sees a picture when he was in school, remembering he used to say that it was not so cool to have your mother waiting for the school bus at your side. So when the bus would get in sight, she quickly stepped aside.

She goes on through the album like a trip down through the years, and as she goes from page to page her eyes start forming tears. All through his life she stood by him in everything he tried, until he could do it alone and then she stepped aside. But even though she stepped aside she was always near, with a mother’s worried heart and with a mother’s fear, knowing that a day would come when life would have a plan for her little boy who now has grown to be a man.

She closes up the album and looks at the fireplace. She sees his picture on the mantel4 with his smiling face. Called to active duty and he’s serving now with pride. And once again with worried heart, she had to step aside.

To solve any problem or to reach your goal, you don’t need to know all the answers in advance. But you must have a clear idea of the problem or the goal you want to reach.

All you have to do is know where you’re going. The answers will come to you of their own accord. Don’t procrastinate when faced with a big difficult problem. Break the problem into parts, and handle one part at a time.

If you can get up the courage to begin, you have the courage to succeed. It’s the job you never start that takes the longest to finish. Don’t worry about what lies dimly at a distance, but do what lies clearly ahead.

In 1963 a Lancaster bomber crashed on Wallis Island, a remote place in the South Pacific, a long way west of Samoa. The plane wasn't too badly damaged, but over the years, the crash was forgotten and the wreck remained undisturbed. Then in 1989, twenty-six years after the crash, the plane was accidentally rediscovered in an aerial survey of the island. By this time, a Lancaster bomber in reasonable condition was rare and worth rescuing. The French authorities had the plane packaged and moved in parts back to France. Now a group of enthusiasts are going to have the plane restored. It has four Rolls-Royce Merlin engines, but the group will need to have only three of them rebuilt. Imagine their surprise and delight when they broke open the packing cases and found that the fourth engine was sweet as honey -- still in perfect condition. A colony of bees had turned the engine into a hive and it was totally preserved in beeswax!

Last Christmas, the circus owner, Jimmy Gates, decided to take some presents to a children's hospital. Dressed up as Father Christmas and accompanied by a 'guard of honour' of six pretty girls, he set off down the main street of the city riding a baby elephant called Jumbo. He should have known that the police would never allow this sort of thing. A policeman approached Jimmy and told him he ought to have gone along a side street as Jumbo was holding up the traffic. Though Jimmy agreed to go at once, Jumbo refused to move. Fifteen policemen had to push very hard to get him off the main street. The police had a difficult time, but they were most amused. 'Jumbo must weigh a few tons,' said a policeman afterwards, 'so it was fortunate that we didn't have to carry him. Of course, we should arrest him, but as he has a good record, we shall let him off this time.'

In 1858, a French engineer, Aime Thome de Gamond, arrived in England with a plan for a twenty-one-mile tunnel under the English Channel. He said that it would be possible to build a platform in the centre of the Channel. This platform would serve as a port and a railway station. The tunnel would be well-ventilated if tall chimneys were built above sea level. In 1860, a better plan was put forward by an Englishman, William Low. He suggested that a double railway-tunnel should be built. This would solve the problem of ventilation, for if a train entered this tunnel, it would draw in fresh air behind it. Forty-two years later a tunnel was actually begun. If, at the time, the British had not feared invasion, it would have been completed. The world had to wait almost another 100 years for the Channel Tunnel. It was officially opened on March 7,1994, finally connecting Britain to the European continent.

In the darkness, and my mind floating up, the ghost of a tree, let me afraid, I don't know for what reason, I'm afraid is but I know, it must be my own caused by the terrorist, here, I was reminded of those friends before, we often under the dim light of night talking about our future, but today, we around a dream we are out of the far, far away, my heart will go this far, seems to have not come back. Friend, where are you? When will we get together again? Tell me, where are you? Born to Win Each human being is born as something new, something that never existed before. Each is born with the capacity to win at life. Each person has a unique way of seeing, hearing, touching, tasting and thinking. Each has his or her own unique potentials---capabilities and limitations. Each can be a significant, thinking, aware, and creative being---a productive person, a winner. The word “winner” and “loser” have many meanings. When we refer to a person as a winner, we do not mean one who makes someone else lose. To us, a winner is one who responds authentically by being credible, trustworthy, responsive, and genuine, both as an individual and as a member of a society. Winners do not dedicated their lives to a concept of what they imagine they should be; rather, they are themselves and as such do not use their energy putting on a performance, maintaining pretence and manipulating others. They are aware that there is a difference between being loving and acting loving, between being stupid and acting stupid, between being knowledgeable and acting knowledgeable. Winners do not need to hide behind a mask. Winners are not afraid to do their own thinking and to use their own knowledge. They can separate facts from opinions and don’t pretend to have all the answers. They listen to others, evaluate what they say, but come to their own conclusions. Although winners can admire and respect other people, they are not totally defined, demolished, bound, or awed by them. Winners do not play “helpless”, nor do they play the blaming game. Instead, they assume responsibility for their own lives. They don’t give others a false authority over them. Winners are their own bosses and know it. A winner’s timing is right. Winners respond appropriately to the situation. Their responses are related to the message sent and preserve the significance, worth, well-being, and dignity of the people involved. Winners know that for everything there is a season and for every activity a time. Although winners can freely enjoy themselves, they can also postpone enjoyment, can discipline themselves in the present to enhance their enjoyment in the future. Winners are not afraid to go after what he wants, but they do so in proper ways. Winners do not get their security by controlling others. They do not set themselves up to lose. A winner cares about the world and its peoples. A winner is not isolated from the general problems of society, but is concerned, compassionate, and committed to improving the quality of life. Even in the face of national and international adversity, a winner’s self-image is not one of a powerless individual. A winner works to make the world a better place. Family My son, when he was 4 years old, began to show great interest in the English word ‘family’ after he had watched the public-interest advertisement of ‘family’ on CCTV. Recently, he has asked me to teach him how to write on his word-pad, and the first English word he wants to learn is ‘family’ because he likes it very much. Actually, there are a lot of stories about the origin of the English word ‘family’, and one of them goes like this: long, long ago, people should say ‘father and mother, I love you’ to deliver their appreciation to their parents when they got up every morning, and later they created a new word ‘family’ instead of ‘father and mother I love you’ by connecting the first letters of these six words. Another story says that family is from the Latin word ‘familia’ , which means ‘family, household’ and originally ‘slaves of the household.’ ‘Family’, in my opinion, could also be understood as ‘female and male interdependently live yearly’. ‘F’ means ‘female’ , ‘A’ is for ‘and’, ‘M’ symbolizes ‘male’, ‘L’ stands for ‘interdependently’, ‘L’ is the short form of ‘live’, and ‘y’ could be known as ‘yearly’. We all have a family. But it really takes great efforts for a family to live long. We have heard of too many stories about family’s being ‘dead’ from the reports and the people around us; we have seen so many divorces! There are various reasons for a family to become broken, but one thing that we can be sure is that they still do not really understand the true meaning of family. Whenever a divorce occurs, it is not right for us to blame only one of them, for it must be mistakes made by a couple together rather than by a single member in a family. Actually, there are some codes hiding in the word I think. ‘F’ shows ‘frankness’, ‘A’ can expresses ‘allowance’, ‘M’ delivers ‘mildness’, ‘I’ implies ‘independence’, ‘l’ signifies ‘loyalty’, and ‘y’ points to ‘yearning’. Frankness is a basis to each member in the family, and it is an attitude to your other ‘half’; allowance is a foundation, which shows trust to your family; mildness is a requirement, carrying your respect to your spouse. Interdependence is necessity, and it includes another one’s significance in your heart; loyalty is centrality that contains responsibility to your lover; yearning is a pillar, your love to your family.( 文章阅读 网: ) The six letters of the word ‘family’ are just like the six surfaces of a cube. Without a single side, a cube would not exist while without a single member, a family would not last.
